Exploring Cyprus!

7 days exploring Cyprus are enough to see much of the island. The History of Cyprus may be long, but the distances are short. That is why you can spend a satisfying weekend in Cyprus and come away feeling as if you have had a fascinating glimpse of ancient civilizations as well as of the modern Mediterranean lifestyle.

There is much to see and do in the island especially if you allow yourself a week or more to experience the wonders that Cyprus has to offer. You can choose any of the daily itineraries listed below according to the length of your stay at the island and alter accordingly.

Depending on the days and time of visit you have several alternatives. (If in Limassol as a cruise passenger for just one day, it would be advisable to visit the city center, even get to Paphos through the  InterCity Bus which departs right from the port).

Day 1-Nicosia

In the morning, visit the Archaeological Cyprus Museum, Ayios Ioannis Cathedral, Byzantine and Folk Art Museums and the Famagusta Gate area, or skip one or two of the above to spend more time for the rest. Have lunch at Laiki Geitonia, and leave for the afternoon the visit to the Leventis Municipal Museum perhaps or if you are after shopping instead take a walk in the pedestrian shopping area.

Day 2-Larnaca

Larnaca: In the morning visit the Church of St. Lazarus, Pierides Museum and Kition. Lunch to follow at ‘Phinikoudes” promenade. In the afternoon take a short ride to the village of Lefkara, famous for its local lace and silverware, and on the way back visit the Khirokitia Neolithic settlement which is on the way.

Day 3-Famagusta

Visit Ayios Georgios Church at Sotira, Ayia Napa and perhaps the Monastery and spend your afternoon swimming in the crystal clear waters of Ayia Napa and Paralimni. Before you leave to get to Cape Grego to explore the rugged coast…worth visiting!

Day 4-Troodos Mountains

Visit Asinou Church at Nikitari village, Ayios Nikolaos tis Stegis Church at Kakopetria village and stop for lunch at Platres. In the afternoon, visit Trooditissa or Kykkos Monastery  -both worth visiting if you have time. On the way, you will pass through picturesque villages.

Day 5-Limassol

In the morning visit Kolossi Castle, Kourion ancient site and the Sanctuary of Apollo. Leave for the afternoon the visit to the Medieval Museum and the ancient site of Amathus.

Day 6-Paphos

On the way to Paphos stop at Petra tou Romiou – legendary birthplace of Aphrodite and Ayia Paraskevi Church at Geroskipou village. Lunch at the harbor. In the afternoon visit Paphos Medieval Fort, Mosaics and the Tombs of the Kings.

Day 7-Explore Akamas

In the morning, visit Ayios Neofytos Monastery, and perhaps Ayios Georgios near the village of Pegeia, and Polis. Have lunch at Latchi fishing resort perhaps, or take one of nature walks at Akamas peninsula, starting from the Baths of Aphrodite – Adonis Nature Trail.
