A Peaceful Base in the Heart of Athens

Electra Palace Athens is located on an attractive back street close to the area’s museums, and the main attractions. The hotel’s yellow neo-classical façade was added during a makeover in the run-up to the 2004 Olympics, giving it a convincing late 19th-century look, in harmony with many other neighboring buildings. The location could not be better and it is close to anywhere you need to be; within walking distance from most of the Athens main attractions, with Syntagma Square in less than 5 minutes’ walk, with the Parliament and shopping districts close by. We stepped in to find ourselves in the glamorous and elegant lobby that offers luxury touches that echo the essence of what you want as a traveler.

Entrance

We arrived a bit earlier and the luggage was kept until the room was ready, but we could enjoy a complimentary drink. (Beer, ouzo or soft drink.) Guests are given a card to present at time of their choice to any of the bars. A nice gesture indeed and we used ours the very last evening for some beers upon returning from our outing.

Lobby

The atmosphere in the groundfloor expertly bridges the past classic glamour with the present to unveil a magnificently crafted experience.

In the meantime, we are informed that we are upgraded to a Junior Suite and later on we are escorted to the suite by the same bell man whose name I miss right now, who indicated a few things we ought to know regarding the use of some amenities.

Room

Our junior suite #136 was spacious and colorful. The interior matched well with the rest of the features of the suite. Wooden floor partly carpeted with the King sized bed dominating the bedroom and a sitting room with a comfortable sofa and working desk, a second LCD TV, and an elegant classic framed wall mirror. There was nothing to fault and turndown service was great, however suites with view of the Acropolis do worth the extra cost!

We enjoyed an absolute uninterrupted sleep due to the top quality plush mattress, the lux linens, but also the soundproof window and thick curtains that prevented light from coming in. Giving much attention to pillows as always, I can tell they were actually good. Nothing that I can think of was missing and there was plenty of storage space, coffee/tea facilities, a fully packed mini bar, a safe and hairdryer, robes and slippers while iron facilities were upon request.

I was amazed when I requested to be brought an iron upon our arrival and I had the set in the room in less than 5 minutes. A big thanks goes to Paola who was very helpful. The complimentary treat was accompanied with a card from the management together with a bottle of red wine and fruit. Both, highly appreciated.

Bathroom

The en suite marble-tiled bathroom was of average size and well lit with a deep soaking bathtub and plenty of hot water with satisfying pressure. Elegant and classic, it matched well with the rest of the interior décor, the feeling and style of the suite in general. A few more details really make the difference that you could spot yourselves if ever here. As for the complimentary set of toiletries, they were the popular “Korres’ brand for that extra pampering!

Breakfast

The place runs like clockwork. Staff is well trained to ensure clients are well served. A special mention goes to the Breakfast Restaurant which was great and had exceptional service, bearing in mind the hotel was fully booked and several turning up late, a little before it closed.

An American buffet breakfast is served in the ground floor Motivo restaurant, which opens onto a small but extremely beautiful walled garden, with palms and geraniums. The Greek options included traditional desserts that certainly added complexity to the operation. Waiters offered top notch service, they were friendly and discreet.

The Greek options included also traditional desserts that certainly added complexity to the operation. I came across foreign guests whom over a chat in the restaurant mentioned how they enjoyed this.

Waiters did offer top notch service, they were friendly and discreet and ready to help. Being on just BB ourselves I cannot comment on the other restaurant this time. The little shady garden seems to be another peaceful oasis for guests to enjoy breakfast, have a drink or enjoy a Greek dinner.

Terrace Pool

The rooftop, all-day Pool Bar located on the 5th floor is the perfect spot to soak up the Greek sun over refreshing drinks and snacks. There is a nice patio with deck chairs by the pool and the spot is way too popular with guests. Seeing this skyline oasis and its unobstructed view from much above, I was totally blown away!

Spa

I felt totally spoilt the moment I climbed down the flight of stairs and entered the humble area of the spa with the small indoor pool. A combined package to fit my own needs was arranged before leaving the hotel.

Verdict

On the whole the stay experience was remarkable. For business clientele or not, for a relaxing spa getaway or a short stay in Athens, you can rest assured that nothing will let you down out here. Whatever the reason might be, make a booking and let the rest to the professionals.
