Taleton Sparti Country House is set at the foothills of Mount Taygetos, located in Xirokampi village. This traditionally designed guest house is environmentally friendly. The hotel’s mountain location makes it an ideal starting point for outdoor activities like cycling, hiking and rock-climbing. Wanting to avoid crowded Sparta I was searching for a nice boutique hotel for a short stay. I came across this little gem that I spotted in Xirokampi –a village I had never heard before but visiting this traditional guest house was an excuse to visit the village as well.
The staff are very friendly and check-in was quick and efficient. We are treated with a welcoming drink upon arrival and were escorted to our room. The building is entirely constructed in stone and dates back from 1838 with an intriguing history behind.
Our 2-storey apartment had the bedroom up on the attic and on the ground floor a cozy sitting room with a fireplace and a mini fridge. Coffee/tea facilities were also provided as well as free Wi-Fi access.
I could not wait check their breakfast in the morning. The buffet might not have been that big but it was enough to fill you up for hours. It seems that homemade organic products play a significant role in the hospitality of Taleton. The traditional Greek breakfast is made with high quality products and is served either in the lounge or the courtyard.
The buffet in the morning had everything -from fresh village eggs to fresh orange juice. The area prides for its amazing oranges and orange groves are all over. Laconia region prides for its amazing orange groves and it seemed we were here the perfect timing. I was tempted with their homemade marmalades and my husband liked the local honey. Before checking out, we bought two jars for home. Among others, Taleton Sparti Country house seems to rely and count a lot on the quality of what it offers. What more could a guest wish for other than quality and perfect service!
The village of Xirokampi has several nice restaurants and tavernas spread all around the village square but we judged it was better to dine at the little restaurant of the Taleton Sparti Country House and try the cuisine.
My husband opted for some pasta and I went for a freshly-cut Salad. I wished for something light and we paired our choice with a bottle of local red wine. The service was excellent and the tastes homely.
The multifunctional relaxing lounge of the Taleton Sparti Country House has the traditional character and it is the meeting spot for guests. A lovely interior with a library and a bar where you can sip on a coffee and relax.
By the fountain, in the courtyard, there is a continuous flow and sound of water creating a pleasant and relaxing atmosphere. There is a pleasing smell which becomes even stronger early in the morning and again in the evening that comes from different herbs like rosemary, mint, and lavender which are planted in the garden. Two bikes we came across in the courtyard are for rent for guests who wish to go around the village.
After our short stay, I can assure that the Taleton Sparti Country House is a great choice. Mystras is a 20-minute drive and in short proximity, Monemvasia and the imposing peak of Taygetus. The food here was fine, and hospitality top notch. When I return to this area again I won’t consider staying anywhere else but at the Taleton Sparti Country House.
