Fine Dining!

The Olive Restaurant Krakow of the Sheraton Grand Krakow offers fine dining and Mediterranean cuisine. I am back for another Tasting Experience a year after my last stay at the hotel. Our dinner takes place at the Roof Terrace and upon our arrival the Executive Chef of the Sheraton, Jacek Filipczyk drops by to welcome us. We had met on my previous visit so he was not somebody I met for the first time. Jacek has not appeared out of the blue, but he was part of Hotel’s Opening Team, so he knows the Hotel inside out! Besides being talented and a food enthusiast, as a person I find him to be a true gentleman, with a great culinary passion and very friendly.

We had arranged to come a bit earlier to enjoy the breathtaking view over the Wisla River and the Wawel Castle. The roof cover of the terrace is down so we sit indoors and the atmosphere is very relaxed. We take a couple of photos out at the open terrace while enjoying our Aperol Spritz Cocktail

Appetizer

Jacek, the Executive Chef of the Olive Restaurant of the Sheraton Grand, has to hurry back to his kitchen because he is peronally going to be cooking for us that evening. He is anxious to see how I like his new culinary creations he said. In less than 10 minutes we start off with the Stem Baltic Salmon paired with a selection of vegetables, Mango mousse and black Caviar. A nice presentation and an appetizing delight!

We felt spoiled by the young and friendly staff who give a sense of service perfection. As for Mariusz the somelier, it was nice to see him again and he remembered us too. With his precious help we had an Italian Martini Rose sparkling wine with a delicate and appetizing aftertaste. The dessert wine was the De Casta Rosado 2014 (Miquel Torres) with fruity aromas

Soup

The Lobster and fresh Tomato Soup with grilled Prawns, parsley and wild Rise was extremely tasty and had a garlicky flow, but was missing any trace of lobster!

Main Course

The main dish was the Grilled Polish Beef Tenderloin –a gorgeous looking dish.  The Beef Tenderloin stood out visually, was tenderly juicy and succulent. The combination of king Oyster Mushrooms with mini Green Asparagus, sugar snap peas and young Fondant Potatoes paired well with the Shallot wine cream sauce. Crunchy veggies cooked to perfection – Big thumbs up!

Dessert

To finish off this fantastic meal it was time for dessert and we had the Lemon and Basil Tart. I can’t say it was my piece of cake, -the creamy texture a bit more sour than I expected made it taste slightly bitter. My friend was happy with it and said it was super! There are times when lemons towards the end of the season are more sour than normal, so I am sure this was the case. Otherwise the presentation and combination of fruit and chocolate was unbeatable.

Verdict

The overall experience was great. If somebody told you that this is an amazing restaurant with food that gets your mouth watering, he is absolutely right. The Olive Restaurant of the Sheraton Grand is a ‘must dine’ experience. The new Executive Chef is doing excellent work, the staff are friendly, discreet and professional. Be sure to drop by and try the new culinary courses and delights which are divine. Highly recommended!
