Excellent Value!
Nooit Gedacht Heritage Hotel is housed in a restored Dutch colonial building and features 2 swimming pools, a huge garden and free parking on site. The staff at the tour desk can assist with making travel arrangements. Nooit Gedacht Heritage Hotel is a 10-minute walk from Unawatuna Beach, 5 km from the Galle Fortress and 119 km from Colombo. Bandaranaike International Airport is 149 km away.
Common Area
We spent 2 lovely nights at the Nooit Gedacht Heritage Hotel which used to be the original Dutch governor’s house. A little paradise and only a 10 minute walk to the beach. You step off the bustling main road, through the tall gates into an oasis of calm with fireflies flashing and frogs calling at night.
Nooit Gedacht Heritage Hotel is located infront of the main road, though the rooms are located far away from noisy background. New wings have been added that are in excellent condition and the property is well maintained.

During our stay we did not have any massage or other treatment at the Ayurvedic Spa of the Nooit Gedacht Heritage Hotel, and it was something that perhaps we missed.
Room
The room was immaculately clean, pretty with dark wood furniture and a real bargain. Rooms in general are either in older style bungalows like this one and in excellent value for money, or in more modern blocks at the back.

Everything was nice indoors and outdoors but the only downside was that there was no Wi Fi in the room. Internet access in public areas is only available at the reception area, lobby and restaurant.
The bed was tastefully decorated and comfortable. A mini fridge was missing and we had to request one from the reception.
Bathroom
The bathroom was average size, with a shower, clean towels and several toiletries.
View from the room
We made use of our balcony a lot enjoying the exotic beauty. There is nothing to parallel sitting on your balcony with a cup of tea (tea making facilities provided), watching the monkeys, parrots, kingfishers, chipmunks and even a monitor lizard.

Nooit Gedacht Heritage Hotel has a beautiful enclosed garden where we loved to sit and watch the amazing view surrounded with lush vegetation and listen to the sounds of nature. What more to ask!

The gardens are huge and beautiful, including a lily pond and back onto the herbal mountain. The wildlife encroaches into the garden – making for amazing spotting. It was so beautiful and peaceful out here that we would love to return.
Breakfast was decent but not that great, consisting of a few local and western dishes. We loved the variety of fresh fruit. The staff was friendly and ready to help. Since we were out sight-seeing we always had something to eat outdoors. A couple we met here who tried the cuisine mentioned that their meals were delicious though!
Verdict
I am running out of superlatives in describing the beauty of the Nooit Gedacht Hotel. It was simply awesome, with excellent customer service, tastefully decorated rooms and a fantastic pool surrounded by greenery. An earthly paradise! Nice food, good location, not to mention the very professional staff. What else can you ask for? Our stay was great and if ever back we could stay with pleasure here again. Highly recommended!
