Mavromichalai Limeni is a traditional stone-built, and historical tower-house located in the centre of Limeni village. Tastefully decorated, the suites and rooms offer unlimited views of Limeni Bay. Each room includes an LCD TV, minibar and safe. Continental breakfast is provided and room service as well. Mavromichalai hotel is 6 km from the town of Areopolis, while the scenic seaside town of Gytheio is 25 km away.
We are on a two week trip to Laconia and one of my choices is this historical tower. What a wonderful place to be! The tower-house seems as if it rises from the waters and the lapping waves are nonstop. The sound carries you away. If you plan visiting Mani see that you count in this boutique hotel.
Upon stepping in I can feel the presence of the past and atmosphere of those times. I feel as if I am in a fort and suddenly the owner of those days ‘Petrobeis Mavromichalai’ would show up in his traditional ‘fustanella’ and red fez.
Ι am deeply moved when I touch the Mavromichalai family’s guns of those days, and when I browse the very old leather-bound books of the family. I cannot wait though to have the key and see the room. The service is great, we are escorted to the room and even have help in carrying the heavy bag of mine up the steep stairs.
The Blue superior is where we are staying. Prudent furniture and austere color -details give a touch of elegance. Imagine the color of indigo in contrast with the turquoise, crystal colour of the sea.
The King Size bed is superb and bed linens and towels are the Azzaro brand. We find our bathrobes on the bed. Bathrobes and slippers are provided together with an LCD TV & DVD player, a minibar and a safe. I must say I really appreciated the capsule coffee machine.
The bathroom is so small but cute! It is made of marble and stone, with a walk-in shower. The Bulgari brands are a treat. They are the usual set of shower gel, shampoo and body lotion. What is missing though is a shower cap.
The ladies set the table and brought us white napkins. Our breakfast was served in style and we had freshly squeezed juice lovely locally made delicacies and local smoked meat. Although it was windy at first, I could not imagine having it indoors. The terrace of Mavromichalai Limeni seemed to swing over the sharp rock but we could not miss all the fun and sounds of the waters lapping against the rocks. Soon the sun was high up and it was much warmer. What a relief and how did we enjoy it!
It is hard to believe that the 300 year old tower-house Mavromichalai Limeni is turned into a boutique hotel without losing the charm of that era. Consider it a great getaway if you want to relax and enjoy the Greek sea and sun for a few days. Absolutely recommendable for quiet and relaxing holidays especially for couples.
