How to find Cheap Flights on Skyscanner

Best Timing

Most travellers are well aware that they can book cheaper flights on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Travelers, even people who don’t travel that much are aware by now that if they book much ahead they can get the cheapest price. This is not a rule though. The day before the trip I always like to check and compare what I paid for the price the ticket is sold that day. It happened to us when on three occasions, the price was still the same after all those weeks so we realized that this does not always work. So, here are some useful tips.

Have in mind that airline offers are refreshed every hour. Not always the price changes though, but it is good to refresh your page anyway when you search a second or third time. If you are looking to book on the spot, make sure you don’t start your search at 19:55.

Notifications

There are times when we are uncertain when and where we need to go much ahead, so it is best to take advantage of Skyscanner’s notifications. What to do is to set an email alert for price changes and state the day and place you wish to travel. This does not let Skyscanner spam your email, and you can cancel it at any point in time.

Flexibility

If you are flexible things become much easier. Let’s say you have the dates but you are not certain as yet of the destination. In this case, you can start searching ‘everywhere’. By using flight comparison app Skyscanner, there is a small feature that many people have never heard of that can change the way in which holidays can be booked.

On the homepage, there is an option called ‘Search Everywhere’ which can be utilized to seek out the best deals.

Skyscanner Map

Finally, there is a magical inspiration map that Skyscanner keeps a pretty low key. In the top right of the flight, the search is the word ‘map’ so if you click on it the map allows you to choose a departure city and month and indicates prices to fly to major destinations through green and red dots. The green coloured show direct flights and the red have layovers from your chosen departure city. By clicking on any dot you get more information about the cost and the cheapest times to fly there. With just a simple ‘Everywhere’ click, your plans can change into something better and cheaper.

As I mentioned above, there are times I play with this map, get inspiration, and start planning our coming trips.
